This book is a fun way to educate people of the mamal world.
As an animal lover I found that this book was the best for the price. I found it to be excellent for those that are looking for just common knowledge of the mamal world.

Ski Tours in Southern California
Published in Paperback by Daniel E. Anderson (November, 2000)
Author: Daniel E. Anderson
Average review score:

Cross Country Skiing in Southern California?
SKI TOURS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA filled a major missing link for me - I found it a definitive and very readable book. Now I know a lot more places to go cross country skiing in Southern California. There are 68 trips in the book, complete with trail maps. The trails are in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego Counties and within a one to three hour drive for most Southern Californians. I have now skied nine of the trips. Mr. Anderson's book makes it easy. I found the trail instructions, as well as the directions to the trailheads, clear and easy to follow. It is amazing, in this bastion of fun in the sun, that there are so many places with snow to play on and that it lasts so late into the spring.

This book has a little something for everyone. The trips range from beginner to advance. But it is not just a compilation of ski trails. It includes photos, some cross country ski history, useful information for beginners, safety tips, skiing basics, ski gear information and even tips on skiing etiquette (like what you do with a sitz mark). It also has interesting information about the area where you are skiing. Do you know the world's largest lodgepole pine is in Southern California? I have now skied to it.

And for those who cannot tolerate either cold or snow, there is even a trip to Kelso Dunes in the Mojave Desert! You ski on sand - a definite change of pace from your usual skiing venue. Ski Tours in Southern California should expand most skier's horizons.

Everyone in the office is fighting over my copy!
This book is hilarious! I found out about it when I read a review in the newspaper and went to the website to view sample spreads of the book: soarabovethemadness.com This book perfectly describes some of the stuff we laugh about in our office. One of the funniest parts is near the end where there is a place to make up secret office code names for co-workers! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is stuck in a cubicle and needs some fresh air and a good laugh.

Social Problems: A Critical Thinking Approach
Published in Paperback by Wadsworth Publishing (February, 1998)
Authors: Paul J. Baker, Louise E. Anderson, Dean S. Dorn, and Louis E. Anderson
Average review score:

wonderful introduction
More of a primer on critical thinking than simply a textbook on social problems, Dorn, Anderson and Baker have created a eminently useful and rewarding collection of excercises and articles in this newest edition of their popular text.

While this book was never used in any classes I took, I did take an undergraduate critical thinking class in the Sociology department at CSU Sacramento at the same time that Dean Dorn was teaching there. I think he integrated some of what Andy Hiken, who taught that class, used; the structured and extensive frameworks for critical thinking excercises and other bits and pieces of the curriculum. I have read this text and others that use a similar model and find that the Dorn/Baker/Anderson book is useful, rewarding and especially interesting for use in an undergraduate environment.

The Song Inside: Poems of Unspoken Love
Published in Paperback by Renaissance Alliance Publishing, Inc (February, 2000)
Authors: F. M. Nicholson and Renee Anderson
Average review score:

THOUGHTS OF "THE SONG INSIDE."
IN TODAY'S FAST PACED SOCIETY, SECLUSION OF ANOTHER TIME AND ANOTHER PLACE IS RARE. TO LET THE MIND RELAX, TO LET THE TENDER EYE WEEP, AND TO LET ONE'S SOUL BE LIT BY THE FLAME OF DESIRE, AS WELL AS THIRST FOR THE PRECIOUS DRINK OF LIFE...THIS IS THE GIFT THAT F. M. NICHOLSON GIVES TO THE READER. IF FOR ONE SINGLE MOMENT, AN INDIVIDUAL COULD UNPLUG FROM HIS/HER TECHNOLOGICAL DAY, HE/SHE COULD FIND THE VERY ESSENCE OF WHAT BEAUTY STILL LIES WITHIN THE SACRED WORLD THAT THIS TALENTED POET PENS FOR US, SPEAKING FROM THE VERY VOICE OF HUMANITY ITSELF. COME BE SEDUCED BY,"THE SONG INSIDE," AND LET EACH NOTE OF IT'S EMOTIONAL MESSAGE TAKE YOU ON A PERSONAL JOURNEY SHARING IN THIS POET'S VISIONS OF PHILOSOPHY,"FOR ONLY IN REMEMBERING NIGHT CAN ONE TRULY CELEBRATE THE SUN..." AS WELL AS SHARING IN THE SPARKS OF LOVE," OH THAT YOU WERE HERE THIS NIGHT, SILENT BESIDE ME- YOUR BREATHING, COUNTERPOINT TO MY OWN, THRUMMING IN MY HEART. IMAGINING YOU THERE, THE NIGHTSONG ECHOES IN MY BEING..." IF WALT WHITMAN WERE ALIVE TODAY, I SMILE AT THE THOUGHT HE WOULD INVITE F.M. NICHOLSON TO LUNCH WITH HIM WITHIN A GRASSY MEADOW, WHILE HAVING A SPLENDID CONVERSATION. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS HIDDEN TREASURE OF POERTY. KIMBERLY A. BLANCHETTE
